Mountains tend to occur along fault lines

The distribution of mountainous regions is closely related to fault lines. The oceans vary considerably in depth.
As mountains rose up and valleys formed, water flowed in to the deepest ravines cutting gorges and canyons in the soft newly formed sedimentary rock.
